For a century, Route 66 has been more than a roadway through northeastern Oklahoma — it has been a place of connection for Cherokee people and communities. As the highway developed, Cherokee communities took shape along its path, creating spaces that welcomed travelers while preserving our culture and identity.
The exhibit “Path of Resilience: A Century of Route 66 in Cherokee Nation” highlights the deep ties between Cherokee Nation and America’s Highway, sharing stories of community and cultural influence across generations. Visitors are invited to explore how Cherokee people have been part of the Route 66 story from its earliest days to the present.
On display at the Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural and Welcome Center, the exhibit will be open from May 14, 2026, to Feb. 7, 2027. Plan your visit to discover this unique perspective on one of America’s most historic roads.
