Type of art: Diverse Art Forms

SOLD

A contemporary Native American flute, “Dragonfly Songs at Twilight”, evokes memories of Spring and Summer evenings, quiet reflection, flute songs accompanied by the thrumming of dragonfly wings and starlight.

Crafted from sterling silver, 14k gold, madrone burl, Alaskan yellow cedar burl and leather, “Dragonfly Songs at Twilight” is a celebration of the innocent beauty in nature and a Springtime promise of new life and beginnings. Melding the mediums of sculptural jewelry design, instrument making and concert tuning, “Dragonfly Songs at Twilight” showcases contrasting and complimentary textures and colors of metal, wood and leather.

Pentatonically concert tuned to the key of G.

Materials: Sterling silver, 14k gold, Madrone Burl, Alaskan Yellow Cedar Burl and Leather

Technique: Exotic and domestic woods are laminated, laser aligned and bored from each end, forming two interior air chambers within the flute. Exacting concert tuning is achieved within a unique, climate controlled environment at precisely 72 degrees F. The exterior is shaped by a combination of lathe turning and extensive hand sanding. The finish is applied in six layers of sprayed, pre- catalyzed lacquer, wet sanded between each coat and finally hand buffed and polished to a warm, natural glow.
