Located off of Route 66 and I-44, the Anna Mitchell Cultural and Welcome Center offers an exciting opportunity for travelers to learn about Cherokee history, art, and culture. The center also serves as a community space for local Cherokees to gather for meetings, events, or classes.
ANNA MITCHELL
Potter and Cherokee National Treasure Anna Mitchell is widely known for reviving the art of Southeastern traditional pottery. Her work has impacted the Cherokee community and inspired many Cherokee artists to revive traditional art forms and Southeastern symbols. This attraction features an outdoor exhibit honoring Anna Mitchell, with a large-scale, walk-through pottery vessel where visitors can reflect on the heritage and culture of the Cherokee Nation.
ART GALLERY & EXHIBIT
Our permanent exhibit captures art, artifacts, and rich storytelling to give you a snapshot of the Cherokee Nation’s history from its origins through present day. Our incredible team of artists have woven Cherokee elements into the design of our building. The cultural center gives visitors a broad overview of Cherokee history and culture, while offering an immersive and enriching experience for visitors of all ages.
WOVEN LEGACIES: CARRYING A CHEROKEE TRADITION
“Woven Legacies: Carrying a Cherokee Tradition” looks at the history, art and people of Cherokee basketry and the presence of community support to continue this expression for generations to come.
Our cafe and gift shop are perfect for travelers on Route 66 and I-44. Enjoy a bite to eat or a cup of coffee while learning about the rich history and traditions of the Cherokee people.
