Hunter’s Home

When Cherokees were forced to leave their homes during the Trail of Tears, George M. Murrell, husband to the niece of Cherokee leader John Ross, chose to move with his wife’s family to Indian Territory.

In Park Hill, he established a plantation and built a large frame home similar to those he remembered in Virginia. Today, “Hunter’s Home” is the only remaining antebellum plantation home in Oklahoma.
