FEATURED ARTIST – CAROLYN PALLETT

CAROLYN PALLETT
Much of the fun of beadwork art is in searching for details that only are revealed upon a closer look. Cherokee Nation citizen Carolyn Pallett’s “Southeasterly Shine” bandolier bag, replete with double spirals, traveling angles and shimmering metallic beads, is a beautiful example of the continued revival of a Cherokee artistic tradition.

Pallett sought to make art after retiring from her second career as a pharmacist, and she found a mentor in Cherokee National Treasure Martha Berry. Pallett’s work is inspired by childhood memories of sewing with family, collecting beads and a treadle machine she received as a birthday gift.
