The First Cherokee Christmas
About the Exhibit

Discover how the Cherokee people came to celebrate Christmas in “The First Cherokee Christmas,” an exhibit at the Cherokee National History Museum. The perennial display tells how Moravian missionaries living among the Cherokees in 1805 introduced their Christmas holiday ceremonies, songs and customs at the home of a Cherokee leader. The exhibit features a Christmas tree and decorations inspired by that first-known gathering from more than 200 years ago.
